“It is not reason that is taking away my faith: on the contrary, my faith is based on reason.”

C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Every Sunday morning in Europe, as the church bells ring, the greatest churches in the world sit barren, devoid of Christians and of worship. America is now labeled as “post-Christian,” and some believe it will only be a short time until American churches resemble those of Europe: Silent and unused.

There is a pressing need in the American church for Christians who can articulate what they believe and why they believe it, both for spreading and defending the good news of Jesus Christ. This class takes a pragmatic approach to meeting that need.

Before each class, you’ll read a selection of chapters from C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity, and we will spend the class time simply discussing what we learned and why it matters. This method of learning, “Socratic Discussion” as it is sometimes called, will practically equip you to speak about your faith outside of church with family, friends, or your dental hygienist (as has recently happened to me).

Let us glorify God together, learning to “give a reason for the hope that we have with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15)
