Join other adoptive parents as we come together to support and encourage one another.

The Adoption Support Group will meet the FIRST Monday of the Month - November 2024 through May 2025.

Our gathering will be facilitated by adoptive parents and we will also have Woodmen’s Access Program Director and Coordinator for the Foster, Adopt & Kinship Ministry, Emily Hess, on-hand to offer support, advice, and help with connections at Woodmen. We will be using the book, A Place I Didn’t Belong, as a guide to foster conversation. Though the book is addressed to mothers, the material is highly applicable for both fathers and mothers walking the adoption journey.

A Place I Didn’t Belong validates the sometimes devastating experiences of adoptive parenthood while offering hope, practical coping strategies, and spiritual renewal for the journey ahead.

The trajectory of unmet expectations, our children’s compromised beginnings, and the wounds we carry into our adoptions conspire to take us to a place we didn’t belong. Insights on emotional healing help us reclaim hope for our adoption journey.

This is not a how-to or a ten-easy-steps-to-successful-parenting program. It’s about real life, real people, and real struggles. It’s about relationships and community. It’s about reclaiming ourselves when adoption dreams shatter. It’s about a journey that begins in our heart, and delivers us to the place we do belong - into our Father’s arms.
