Guatemala Day 1

Today on our first full day in Guatemala the team woke up to be at breakfast at 7 and headed off to the first day of VBS at Cruz Blanca. All the team was eager to see the kids and start working with our rotations. After greeting the staff, teachers and translators at the school, and working with our first group of kids in the morning, break for lunch, and a second afternoon rotation of kids, everyone felt very moved by the kids pure joy and excitement to be there. Unum’s director Josh remarked how he saw the team’s comfort and confidence with the kids grow after the group in the morning and how he was impressed how much more comfortable and relaxed the team was.
Cale, Josh and I went to a local grocery store after we left to grab some last minute items. Cale said he was going to use the restroom, we continued to check out. A few minutes later Josh checks his phone and starts laughing to himself. He then tells me how cale is texting him that he is locked in the restroom. Josh had to grab an employee to unlock the door. You could tell they were extremely tired of unlocking this door for people, as we were leaving they finally made a printed sign to out on the door.
Arriving back at Mimi’s house, we ate street tacos and the team played on the playground and the basketball court. We finished out our first full day with a debrief, sharing of testimonies and worship.
God worked through us with our confidence with the kids and using a translator more effectively. Continue to pray for safety and energy, as well as for time with the children to be impactful, and for the language barrier to not prevent us from being fully intentional and show Gods love to the staff and teachers.
