Zambia 2024 - Day 5

The third full day of working with Cure has been packed. From missing our morning meeting, (after we said we could definitely get up at 6:30 the night before) to making brackets with kids and finally ending with an epic rap with Trevor (a cure staff member) it has been a blast. We started by splitting into our small groups, a couple of us got to spend time in the ward playing with kids who were about to go into surgery. Lillian who serves as the child mentor at Cure and our main facilitator while in Zambia, did an amazing job as she walked the new patients through what to expect in surgery and not to be nervous about bright lights, the oxygen tank, and people in funny masks. She ended the meeting with prayer and then the hospital was off to the races. We then got to spend more time in the Ward playing with kids - teaching them how to make bracelets playing with balloons, and coloring books. So many of the kids had a smile on their faces after we walked in. Some of us even got to hold some kiddos and really make a connection with them. After lunch, we got to rehearse for the chapel service that we are leading on Wednesday. We got to rehearse How Great Thou Art in Bemba (which took some practice) and It is Well. We had to make sure that we hadn’t lost our art skills so, we repainted some parking lot lines while talking music artists and what alphabet letter was the best. The dinner this evening was such an amazing experience! We had a traditional Zambian Braai dinner which included the staff and some top-notch food. Each team member got to eat their food and talk with a Cure worker who each spoke some wisdom into each of us. From Zambian culture to knowing what it means to be in Christ, we all left dinner filled physically and spiritually.
