Zambia Day 6, 2023

Today was our team’s third day at the hospital and another amazing opportunity to serve alongside CURE and Sunshine Kids Club of Zambia. The day started with staff chapel where we were treated to worship, a budget briefing, and an in-depth anatomy lesson on human eyes.

After chapel, we headed to the OPD (outpatient department) with bubbles and coloring pages. The bubbles were a huge hit with the kids and one of guys had the coolest Lightning McQueen shoes I’ve ever seen. The bubble popping got competitive but everyone had a good time and laughs all around.

After our time in the OPD, we made our way over to the playroom with our colored pipe cleaners and bracelet making skills. Our team was able to spend a lot of time there with some of the kids who are in recovery and make crafts and sing songs with them.

Around this time we were called to lunch and then headed to the swings. Tons of the kids came to play and have piggy back races in the yard outside of the ward.

Our community outreach was next on the schedule so we hopped into the van and headed to the Sunshine Kids Club of Zambia house. They’re an amazing club led by teens and young adults that acts as a safe haven for around 70 kids. They’re able to learn about what it means to be a disciple of the Lord and have a blast playing soccer and other games in the courtyard. We were blessed to be a part of their meeting and witness the beautiful work that is being done there.

Once we were back at the hospital, a few of us went out and played in the nightly staff soccer game. They’re crazy talented and competitive and playing with them was a blast. We weren’t able to finish the game though, because we had dinner at Prime Joint with a few of the hospital staff. The food was amazing and it was a great opportunity to get to know the hospital staff better and share stories. We finished off the night with a quick debrief and sharing testimonies.
