HS Estonia - English Camp - July 10th
Day 2 - The gain train left at 6:00, but I didn’t get up until 8:05. Just kidding! I never miss the gain train, KEDRICK (Estonia 2022). Boy do we miss him!
God is doing some amazing things here at camp. After spending half the day getting to know them yesterday, the campers are still warming up to us, but we’ve gotten to have some great and meaningful conversations.
Today we started the day with some lovely porridge which had a light cranberry drizzle atop it, with a provolone and tomato sandwich. This was quite scrumptious. We also were given the choice of different assorted juices, which Ellie spilled on Misha’s toes (which are still sticky). Breakfast turned out to be quite the start to the day.
After breakfast, we went to the main service of camp, where Pastor Matt (a local pastor) gave us a sermon about being created with a purpose. Then we headed into small group discussion, where we only got about five minutes to talk because the message went over time. People definitely started to open up during these small group sessions, and the conversations opened doors for deeper conversations in evening group.
Then it was time for the first English environment that we prepared for the campers (during our pre-trip meetings). We played a game called Fishbowl, where you have to guess the word through speaking and acting throughout multiple rounds. Ethan’s group won, but only because he rigged the election. -Actually he was just better at the game, lol. After this, we headed to lunch.
After another great meal, we headed to the next English environment. This environment was a fun and different version of sharks and minnows called “English Sharks and Minnows and Seaweed”. This was a wonderful time for the campers to enjoy friends while making fun sentences in English. After that, we played a violent volleyball game with a little more than minimal casualties (praise God there was a nurse on the team), and a few of us walked to the market.
The next session was a main service camp talk about the fall of humankind. We discussed the story of Adam and Eve in our small groups as well as talking about the hope and grace we find in Jesus. Our groups shared some of their testimonies and we started to connect on a more real and spiritual level.
A little bit more about our time here:
Throughout our time here, we have been exposed to many opportunities to minister to the campers and put our training into practice. Some of this has included morning devos, and testimonies in front of the entire camp. Yesterday, Leah and Rhett shared their testimonies to our small group team, and today, Misha and Bronner had the chance to share parts of theirs with the entire camp. Rachel did a morning devo, and tomorrow, we’re looking forward to hearing Misha preach a session, and Ellie and Kendall give their Testimonies to the camp.
We’re sooooooo stoked to see what God will continue to do. He is so Awesome, and we’re continually reminded of his goodness.
