Guatemala Day 6

After a long week of helping out in Cruz Blanca, we were all a little tired - so naturally, we had our earliest morning yet. We were up bright and early, getting on the road at 6 o'clock for a solid 3 and a half hour drive. After a brief and fulfilling trip to a McDonald's for a truly gourmet breakfast (they liked to mix up their C's and S's for some reason), we eventually made our way to Lake Atitlan for a day of fun. First stop was the beach, where we swam and had a good time beyond Will throwing rocks at us.

Next up, we headed to the zip line. It was more of a hike up than we were expecting and none of us brought water; so much for relaxation. Kirby was a little nervous, but he managed to make it through and had a good time like the rest of us. All in all, at least 25 of us survived. Moving on, we headed into the city and had a very late lunch consisting of traditional Guatemalan cuisine (pizza).

From there we split up into smaller groups and went shopping. Naturally, the vast majority of purchases were pointy objects such as knives, machetes, swords, allegedly legally questionable switchblades, etc. Once we were finished spending money on our assortment of items, it was back to the vehicles. Only problem was that said vehicles were a solid distance away and it was dumping rain. Everyone loved that experience.

Much more tired and much more wet, we settled in for our 3 and a half hour drive in the other direction. Despite some physical discomfort, we managed to stay in high spirits and have a good time all the way back to the houses. After a day of fun activities and beautiful views, we're all pretty tired and ready to call it a night. In the morning awaits one last day of service and good times here in Guatemala before our late night (early morning?) airline adventures.

Good night and God bless.
