Guatemala Day 3
Today was our third day in Cruz Blanca for VBS. We had prepared songs, crafts, skits, and games for the kids. Some of the kids weren't kids at all. We had multiple 16 and 17 year olds too. In the morning, we worked with the younger kids/middle schoolers and did construction work. We had 10-20 minute rotations with each VBS group. For the construction work, we cleared space for the new wall we are building for privacy and security purposes. We then enjoyed a lunch break before getting back to work. After lunch, we did the same VBS rotations in the morning, but with some high schoolers incorporated in the mix. It was awesome getting to meet some of the students that are our age. The interactions were great. The kids truly brought us so much joy. They worked hard to communicate with us even though there were language barriers.
After the afternoon VBS groups, we split up into travel pods and did our daily home visits. Today, each group visited two homes. Thankfully, each pod had a translator for the home visits so it was easier to communicate. When we first entered their homes, we thanked them for their hospitality and then asked them questions about their family and history. After some light conversation, we shared the bible story about the woman at the well. John 4. The analogy behind this story is that even though the water filters we were installing for them would bring them temporary satisfaction, they would always be thirsty for more. But Jesus is our living water and once we accept and pursue Him, we will never be thirsty again. We will be spiritually fulfilled. After the story, we prayed over the families and it was so cool because most of them praised the Lord while we were praying. We then installed the water filters and showed them how to use them. A lot of takeaways that we got from these home visits, were mainly just changed perspectives and thankfulness. These families barely have anything, but they have the most genuine faith and joy. It is truly inspiring to all of us. And even though we entered their homes to serve them, it was like they were serving us. Some offered whatever drinks and food they had and they all had a servant heart of their own.
After home visits, we made the scenic trip back to Mimi's house. We then had dinner and went straight to a debrief. Today impacted so many of us in so many ways. And part of the reason debriefs are so great, is because we get to share the ways it impacted us. After sharing high's and low's and ways God showed up today, we went straight into testimonies. Testimonies are such a great way to share how God took what the enemy meant for evil and used it as a deliverance and blessing. Everyone's testimonies so far have been so impactful and genuine. I know personally for Riley and I, debriefs are one of our favorite parts of the day. We wish they were longer than two hours. We are so glad we get to be here. All of us. The team is bonding so well and we all feel Jesus everywhere we go. Also, thank you to the leaders for guiding us on this trip. And thank you to all of the parents for letting us take this opportunity to experience and create unforgettable memories and bonding. God is doing amazing things here and we are so glad He is using us for His work.
