Zambia #3

Greetings from Zambia! Tuesday started with devotions in the training center. Chief Chef, Nixon shared several verses and led a discussion about practical ways we can express our love for God. In the morning half of our team spent some time helping to organize year’s worth of files for the hospital to help prepare for an audit. They also played with children and spent time with their caregivers in the waiting room before being called in for surgery.

Allison and I were so excited to be invited into “theatre” (operating room) to observe several surgeries. The medical team was very friendly, welcoming and eager to answer our questions about the surgical procedures. We observed a cast change on a 4 year old boy, Talent, who had recently had a club foot repair. Next came Gift, another 4 year old little boy who had severely bowed legs. This surgery was very extensive and his recovery will be challenging, but after he heals he will be able to walk with dramatic improvement. Lastly, we observed the surgeon remove the tonsils and adenoids for a 7 year old girl, Praise, who will now have relief from frequent infections and literally be able to breathe freely.

At the end of our day, I realized the significance of each child’s name and the way only God could write such a beautiful story weaving them together. We praise God for the incredible gift of free life-changing surgeries for these children. Their lives are each so precious and a gift to their families and all who have the opportunity to meet them. We praise God for those on the medical team and the entire staff of Beit Cure Hospital in Zambia who use their talents to glorify God and tangibly express their love for His children.

We ended our day with a Braai, the Zambian equivalent of a barbecue. The kitchen staff prepared all kinds of delicious meats, vegetables, and rice and served them around a fire under a tall wood and grass tent in the “bush” on CURE property. We had fellowship, laughed together at funny stories, and learned more about the history and mission of the Zambia CURE hospital.

It was a wonderful day full of serving and sharing in ministry together with the incredible hospitality of the Zambian people.
