HS Kenya 2022 Day 3

Hello Everyone! 

Today was our first day in the Cure Hospital and we had a great time. We started the morning by attending morning devotions with the staff at the hospital. Half of us got to hear from the medical and nursing staff and pray for the surgeries starting that day and the other half of the team got to hear from the administration team. We then went on a hospital tour led by one of the pastors named Emmy. She showed us the ward that can take care of up to 24 pre and post surgical patients, an area where longer term patients stay, and the outpatient clinic. We also got to see where they make orthopedic devices here at cure including prosthetics, casts, and shoes that can correct club foot. We really enjoyed the tour and getting to see all the parts of the hospital! We then split into group where Kendall and Jackson served in the kitchen and the rest of us were spread out between the ward and other recovery areas. We did a craft of Noah’s ark and played with many kids in a playroom. The kids and the parents were super into the craft (possibly the parents more than the kids) and it was a sweet time to get to do that together. We then had lunch with Emmy and she shared her testimony and her heart for Cure. She shared with us that they evangelize to each guardian and child that comes into the building and if they do accept Christ for the first time, they have an extensive follow up plan. We all really enjoyed and were touched by her story. That afternoon we were originally not sure what the plan was, but were told we could have all the kids come outside while we performed a skit. Most of the kids and a lot of the parents followed us to a courtyard where we performed Noah’s Ark (Landon and Jackson killed it playing Noah and God) and Helmsely, Lindsay and Chloe led us in worship. They all seemed to enjoy watching us so we ended up singing several more songs and reenacting a few more stories. We also performed the Church Clap and the Cha Cha slide for them which brought some laughs from our eager audience. Overall we each got to have conversations with the kids and guardians about their faith and it was encouraging to hear their stories. As a nurse that works in the American healthcare system, I think it was super cool for me to see today how much Cure cares for the kids spiritually, emotionally and physically, but also takes care of the family. We are excited and expectant for the rest of the week and can’t wait to see how God continues to work!
