Zambia June Team #3
Monday was our first full day serving at the CURE hospital. We had a warm welcome from the staff that included an orientation and tour of the hospital. Kevin, Julia, and I had the opportunity to see two surgeries in the operating “theater”. One surgery was very impactful to see a girl who had a severe foot deformity since she was three days old. She now is eight and could walk but was compensating since her legs are different lengths. The orthopedic surgeon amazingly made her foot go from deformed to a normal orientation. He also worked on her growth plate in her other leg to help it not grow as fast. It was incredible to see this transformation in what seemed like a second. Her life will be completely changed. She will be able to walk and grow normally. I had the opportunity to see her after surgery and bring her a bible activity to color. I enjoyed talking with her and her mother and was amazed at how much of a blessing the surgery and care provided by the doctors and staff are to these children. Her life will be forever changed because of the amazing work that CURE does.
