Students Guatemala - June 2021 - Day 4
Today was a blast! We were able to have a little bit of a break to refresh our minds and prepare ourselves for round two of serving with the kids. We started off the day with a delicious breakfast (all the food at Mimi's is amazing) and then loaded up into the bus heading towards the Mayan ruins. Once we arrived we got a tour of the grounds while also learning about their history. Our tour guide was great and I personally learned a lot about the culture, which was really fascinating. After we left the ruins we went to a chicken place for lunch before heading to Antigua to begin shopping. The market itself was beautiful. There were colors everywhere and so many people trying to sell us on buying their item over another shop's. It was so much fun to break off into a smaller group and roam around. Successfully bartering prices down and seeing all of the handmade or woven pieces was definitely my favorite part of the day. I think that it took some of our group some time to get used to it but seeing the accomplished look on their faces after they got it down was amazing! We went around the market area for about an hour before heading to the main area to go to the best chocolate place in Guatemala (would definitely recommend) their chocolate bars, brownies, and gelato were all to die for! The group I went with also made a stop at the jade museum and looked at and learned about all the different kinds there were. Overall today was such a great opportunity to take a breather and reflect over the past two days of teaching while also experiencing parts of this culture!
