Partners in the Gospel

It’s exciting to see a dream coming to reality. And that’s exactly where we, Monument Campus, find ourselves at this point. Since our beginning in December 2015, Monument Campus has continued to expand and grow leading us to campaign for a permanent church home. Our first challenge was to raise $1.45M to purchase land – which became a reality on June 25, 2020, when we purchased 5.45 prime acres of land west of I-25 and north of Baptist Rd. We now press on to raise funds to cover our preconstruction phase to complete everything necessary to begin preparing the land for the building our future church home.


THE LATEST AND GREATEST

Things continue to move ahead on meeting our crucial benchmarks for our future church home. Since my (Pastor Doug) last update, our Finance Committee and the Elder Board approved the project timeline and our financial plan – a proposal to combine the two construction phases into a single phase that will complete the entire facility at one time.

Land –– We closed on the land last spring and we're now the proud owner of a 5.45-acre premier site in the Conexus Business Park.

Site Plan –– We submitted the site plan last spring anticipating three review cycles with final approval in November. Unfortunately we aren’t going to meet that timeline. We anticipate final Town approval at the next meeting. About two months ahead of schedule! The Town of Monument Planning Department only took two review cycles before sending it to the Town Planning Commission with a recommendation for approval. The Planning Commission reviewed the Site Plan at its August 12 meeting and unanimously approved it by a 5-0 vote. It is on the agenda for the Town's Board of Trustee meeting next week (September 8).

Facility Design –– The Board of Elders approved the campus schematic/design development plans at their June meeting and the architect has worked diligently since then to complete the full Construction Drawing (CD) set. The CD set should be complete by September 11. The project General Contractor will then use the CD set to begin bidding the many sub-elements of the construction project.

Ground Breaking –– The project civil engineer completed the grading/site work construction drawings in late August. The General Contractor is already working with a number of grading/earthmoving companies to select the subcontractor for that portion of the project. The General Contractor should award that contract by mid-September and with about 2 weeks for "mobilization" we anticipate initial grading on the site in early October.

Construction Line-of-Credit (LOC) –– The church continues to work with its bank on the construction LOC. We expect completion of the final step, a post-construction appraisal of the facility, by the end of September and should close on the LOC in early October.

Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E) –– With the construction portion of the project moving forward, the Monument project team will begin identifying FF&E requirements then begin searching for the best way to fill these requirements.

Partners in the Gospel (PITG) –– The budget for all pre-construction costs is $1.5 million and we have $390,000 still remaining to meet that target. The pre-construction phase of this project essentially ends in mid-October.

Additional Items –– In addition to the basic update on the "parallel tracks," the project team is working the following supporting items.
(1) General Contractor (GC) – We're finalizing the formal contract with the GC that will cover construction from start to finish.
(2) Cost Estimate – The GC will update the project cost estimate in the coming weeks as a prelude to presenting a contractual "Guaranteed Maximum Price" for the project after the bidding process is complete in early November.
(3) The GC is estimating a 13-month construction period; which means if we start in early October 2020 we will potentially be in our new church home in mid-Fall 2021.

THE BIG PICTURE

In just four short years, God has grown our Monument Campus to more than 1,000 people gathering each weekend. To His glory, more than 2,300 friends and neighbors joined us to celebrate the risen Christ in Easter services this year! 

We believe He has even greater things in store.

The next three years will be pivotal for our church community and for the Tri-Lakes region. Homes are being built all around our campus, and that means thousands of new families and friends moving into the area—people who desperately need the hope that only Christ brings.

Since our campus began, our elders and leaders have been praying, dreaming and seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance for a new, permanent church home for Woodmen Monument. We believe now is the time, through God’s provision, to take the next step! God is calling us to catch hold of this new vision for a church home and to see it come to life through our prayers and financial gifts.
Together, through God’s grace, we can create a home base for Woodmen Monument—for you and me—to be a transformative presence for Christ in the Tri-Lakes region. Because we want to invite every person and every family in our Monument Campus to participate, we’re calling this initiative Partners in the Gospel.

Location Location LOCATION

We believe the Lord planted us here to be a light for the people of the Tri-Lakes region, and now He’s led us to a parcel of land that’s located in a strategic spot for us to be a catalyst for the flourishing of our community. 

The 5.45 acre parcel is located just west of I-25, with freeway visibility and easy access from both the Baptist Road and Highway 105 exits. Recent short-term growth estimates show 2,700 new homes being built within a seven-minute drive of this location.

Our future site is located in a business park with easy access and no residential neighbors who will be troubled by the additional weekend traffic and parking that a church brings. Add in stunning, west-facing mountain views, and we’ve got an ideal location for our new building!

This future Monument church home will be a hub that allows us, as a congregation, to better reach the Tri-Lakes region for years to come as we live out Woodmen’s values: Gather, Connect, Grow and Contribute. GATHER

Imagine a gathering place—not just a school that we rent for a few hours on weekends, but a permanent church home that’s alive with activity and hope seven days a week.

How might God multiply our impact in our community through ministry spaces that are bursting at the seams with kids on Wednesday night, moms growing their faith on Tuesday, men meeting the sunrise on Thursday to start the day off studying God’s word, and weddings on a summer Saturday?

Our new building will include a state-of-the-art auditorium, with comfortable seating for more than 500 people to gather in worship. With three services each weekend, when you add kids classes into the mix, this facility could be home to a church of 1,800!

CONNECT

Our new atrium will provide plenty of room to connect with old friends and meet new ones before and after services and throughout the week. This space will include a coffee bar where neighbors can connect over scripture, and friendly baristas will serve families hot chocolates topped with swirls of fresh whipped cream.

Our multi-use community spaces will also host Bible studies and other ministry events throughout the week. We believe God can use this atmosphere to help Woodmen feel like home for you and for guests on the verge of finding a church.

GROW

The gospels make it clear that children hold a special place in the heart of Jesus, so we want to be a church that welcomes little ones to experience God’s love and helps moms and dads feel at home.

As we reach more families, our new church building will be home to fun, secure spaces for boys and girls to grow. We’ll triple the size of our current kids area!

There’ll be a large-group space where boys and girls can express their joy in energetic ways, as well as smaller classrooms for children to make crafts, learn, pray, and get to know the heart of Jesus.

CONTRIBUTE

As people who seek to contribute to the work of God’s Kingdom, we find ways to serve in our church, our city and beyond. We aspire to contribute in every aspect of our lives, whether that’s showing kindness to neighbors on our street or flying across the world to share God’s love.

We also look to make a Kingdom impact with the way we steward our finances. Our upcoming Monument Partners in the Gospel building initiative offers each of us a unique opportunity to invest financially in a way that will continue to change lives in our community for decades to come.


BY THE NUMBERS

To allow us to dream big and still begin work at the earliest possible date, the overall project will be divided into two phases.

Phase One will include the purchase of the land, architectural planning and site work, construction of the entire building shell, and finishing the first floor of the building. This 19,609-square-foot first floor will house our worship auditorium, an atrium community space and plenty of room for kids to learn and grow. All of this work is included in our current Partners in the Gospel initiative.

Phase One will feature several stages, each representing a separate aspect in the building process. Over the course of our initiative, we’ll give periodic updates regarding budgets and progress for each major stage of work. This will help us meet our financial and scheduling goals along the way.

Phase Two will be funded by a future initiative. This phase will include finishing our 10,463-square-foot second floor. We’ll add student ministries space, adult classrooms, a café, a balcony for additional auditorium seating and more. After Phase One is finished, in the interim while we’re waiting for Phase Two to be completed, we’ll have great interim spaces on our first floor for to host these ministries and events. 


An Opportunity To Trust and Give

We’re trusting God for $9 million to bring Phase One of our dream to life. This total includes purchase of the land, architectural, engineering and planning fees, site preparation, and construction costs.

FUNDING SOURCES

$6,000,000 – Amount we need to raise together as a congregation over the next three years 
$   970,000 – Amount currently in our Monument Partners in the Gospel fund
$2,030,000 – Other Woodmen funding sources

Monument Partners in the Gospel FAQ

With the plans unveiled, here are answers to the questions that come up most frequently.

Can’t we just continue to meet in a school?
We love our local school districts, but as long as we continue meeting in a school, we’re limited by the school’s calendar. In addition to our inability to use facilities during the week, this means that we’re at the mercy of district policies, month-to-month rental contracts and potential schedule conflicts on holidays, like Good Friday or Christmas Eve. A dedicated Woodmen Monument building will address all of these issues, and give us a rooted and recognizable presence in our community.

Is an auditorium that holds around 750 people big enough for future growth?
Over three weekend services, this size of auditorium can host a church of 2,250 people, including kids. At Woodmen, we believe this is a great size for a campus community—big enough to impact surrounding neighborhoods for Christ, but small enough to be a place of caring fellowship.

With a thriving Community Group ministry (like we already have in our Monument Campus community!), a church of this size can be a place for people to both know others and be known by others. If, through God’s grace, more people are drawn to our church, we would look to plant additional Woodmen campuses in the future.

What about a dedicated space for students?
As part of Phase Two of our new church building, we envision a next-generation space for students to explore and take hold of the kind of faith that will last a lifetime. We know that sometimes belonging comes before believing, so it’ll be a welcoming spot for students to invite others to church—for young people to find caring community with others whose lives are centered in Christ. In the meantime, our students will be able to make use of the great new auditorium and community spaces included in Phase One.
