Guatemala day 5
Saturday, July 26 was day 5 of our amazing journey in Guatemala! This was sadly our last day with the amazing kids over at UNUM and we are all truly blessed to even have had the opportunity to be here and be with these kids.
Today was a really amazing day because we got to see the kids and their parents together at the school and we got the pleasure of meeting some of them and bonding over a multitude of different activities. We made bracelets, painted faces, painted nails, played games, and gave out a back- breaking number of piggy back rides. When lunch time came, all of the students and leaders met out front of the school for an epic piñata event! Just watching the smiles on the kids faces melted all of our hearts and our smiles definitely grew when Jessica asked Cale to take a swing at the piñata. I don’t remember the last time that I had seen something so entertaining. It was truly amazing seeing all the kids rush from the leaders arms out to where the candy was and grabbing as much as possible only to come back straight into our arms, and if you were lucky, the kids would give us a piece!
After the piñata and lunch we then went and did a home visit in a very special families house. It was truly amazing seeing this family, the mother and father were so welcoming and they introduced us to their family of 9 kids ranging from a 20 year old to a 8 day old. We asked the father what they did and he let us know that the family grew and sold some stunning yellow filler- flowers for bouquets and proceeded to show us his garden! We are truly blessed to see this families relationship with each other and how our Lord really is a staple in their family and is holding them together so strong! After the visit we said our goodbyes to our amazing translators who have helped us out so much over this trip and headed back to Mimi’s. After yet another amazing debrief of the day we all headed to bed and got ready for our last full day in Guatemala.
